Black Swan Review: Masterpiece? Or Obvious Narrative?
Saturday Nov 27, 2021
Saturday Nov 27, 2021
Black Swan was released in 2010 and is Darren Aronofsy's 5th feature length film. Black Swan explores the subconscious and shadow self of Nina, played by Natalie Portman. The film is rife archetypes and metaphors that seem to be drawn straight from Psychologist Carl Jung's theories. Or the characters are so boring and the plot is laid out in such an obvious way that the narrative is stale. Aranofsky never fails to deliver a movie that causes controversy when discussed. And for all the dude bros out there that only saw this film because Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis kiss, maybe it's time that you took off your backward facing hat and listened to a nice review and analysis of the film.

Cineventure: The Humans Review, a Happy Thanksgiving
Thursday Nov 25, 2021
Thursday Nov 25, 2021
The Humans is the directorial debut of Stephen Karam. The film is based on the Tony Award winning one act stage play of the same name that was also written by Stephen Karam. Despite this being Karam's first feature length film he captures the family drama in the most nuanced and authentic way possible. We peak in on a family during Thanksgiving dinner and the slow building set pieces lead to a dark and wonderful close out of the film that you just don't see very often. We loved this film but we recommend that you take some time and go and see it yourself. Happy Thanksgiving!

Mother! Review: A Bible Story
Saturday Nov 20, 2021
Saturday Nov 20, 2021
Darren Aronofsky certainly has a way of making films that are interesting to discuss. "Mother!" is an alienating, pretentious train wreck that is so obvious in it's story telling it is almost unwatchable... Or it is an anxiety inducing masterpiece filled with wonderful biblical allegories, masterful camera work and performances that build the story to an epic climax. Watch it and find out where you land on the spectrum.

Tuesday Nov 16, 2021
Anonymous Animals is written and directed by French film maker Baptiste Rouveure. Anonymous Animals is a film without dialog and has a run time just over an hour. Despite the short run time and lack dialog this film manages to beat you over the head with it's message. That being said it is an interesting film and worth watching if you want an exercise in understanding the language of film.

This Netflix original is directed by Jeyems Samuel and features a robust cast including Jonathan Majors and Idris Elba. This unique take on the western genre is a breath of fresh air in terms of featuring an African American cast in a primarily white saturated genre. While this film has it's short comings it is one of the better Netflix originals to be released lately.
